I’m writing today to let you know about an exciting summer employment opportunity with Hunger Free America! We are hiring twelve (12) New York City Summer Meals Outreach Associates who will interact with and support NYC locals across all five boroughs. If you know of anyone age eighteen or over (18+) who is looking for an opportunity to spend the summer in NYC, while doing vital work to help feed NYC children and their families, please share this opportunity with them.
More information about the position:
Hunger Free America’s AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associate Program aims to create more food-secure families and support nutritious food choices for low-income people. This position will consist of community outreach to promote the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) and other nutrition programs (e.g. SNAP and WIC) to eligible and interested New Yorkers via canvassing, phone banking, and activities in partnership with community-based organizations and emergency food providers.
This will be a hybrid position, with most days spent in the field and at partner sites. Additional activities include implementing summer meals social media outreach and other communications projects and recruiting volunteers, among other possible duties. Summer Associates must be comfortable spending long hours on their feet outdoors and interacting with the public. The ideal candidate will be interested in child hunger issues, have experience working with diverse communities, and be friendly, outgoing, and comfortable traveling by public transportation. Bilingual skills are a plus but not necessary.
Please see the attached job description for more information about program benefits, eligibility requirements, and how to apply. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out and I’d be happy to speak with you.
