About this event
Food insecurity is a serious issue for Fairfax County. Right alongside one of the wealthiest communities in the country, our neighbors struggle to feed their families on a daily basis. This is what Empty Bowls is about – learning how we, as individuals in a community, can support one another and ensure that no one goes hungry when there’s so much available.
Join us for a hybrid in-person and online event to learn about food insecurity in Fairfax County and ways you can help, all while enjoying a delicious bowl of soup in a handcrafted ceramic bowl.
Our chef for the night is SSG John L. Densham, Jr. He has served as the chef to the Secretary of Defense’s Executive Mess and was part of the gold-winning team at the 2016 Culinary Olympics. His soup will be served in a one-of-a-kind ceramic bowl – hot if you plan to eat with us in person or in a take-away container that you can enjoy with us at home via Zoom! Donated by a variety of local artisans and ceramicists, these bowls are yours to keep and enjoy at home.
In addition to his delicious creations, we will hear from local leaders on food issues as well as those at Rising Hope about what they are doing to ensure no one goes hungry.
